Quick verdict

A useful character profile is specific without becoming contradictory. Personality, scenario, greeting and examples should point toward the same role; public creators also need to respect originality and community rules.

GOOD FIT

Writers and roleplayers who want a repeatable fictional premise or a private customized bot.

OR
PAUSE AND CHECK

Public visibility creates moderation and originality obligations, while detailed prompts still cannot guarantee deterministic replies.

THREE DECISION CUES

Before the first message

  1. 1

Write one sentence defining who the character is and what the conversation is for.

  2. 2

Align personality, scenario, greeting and example dialogue around that premise.

  3. 3

Test privately, revise ambiguous instructions, then decide whether public sharing is appropriate.

Start with role and conversational purpose

Before filling every field, write a short internal brief: the character’s role, the user’s likely role, the opening situation and the desired tone. This keeps the profile from mixing incompatible instructions. A character can be complex, but complexity should come from deliberate traits and history rather than a list of unrelated adjectives. Browse the character directory guide to see how profiles communicate their premise to readers.

Separate durable identity from the immediate scenario. Personality describes recurring behavior and voice; scenario describes the current setting or relationship. If the scenario demands conduct that conflicts with the personality, the model has to guess which instruction wins. Resolve that conflict in the source rather than hoping repeated corrections will fix every conversation.

Write personality and examples as usable evidence

Official documentation supports natural-language descriptions and more structured formats. No format is universally best. Choose the form you can maintain, and describe observable behavior: sentence length, vocabulary, priorities, emotional boundaries and ways the character responds under pressure. Avoid claiming that a formatting label automatically produces a superior model result.

Example dialogue demonstrates voice more concretely than adjectives alone. Keep examples consistent with the greeting and avoid loading them with private real-world data. During testing, look for recurring failures—such as speaking for the user or abandoning the setting—and revise the relevant instruction. The AI chat controls guide explains how edits and fresh branches help isolate those failures.

Public, unlisted, private and imported characters

A private character is visible only to its creator. An unlisted character stays out of public listings and search but remains accessible to anyone with its link. A public character can be discovered and judged by other users, so its title, greeting, tags and imagery need to represent the premise honestly. Official FAQs emphasize originality for public bots; imported work from another creator should not be presented as an original public creation.

Visibility is not a substitute for data minimization. Do not embed passwords, private names, confidential documents or unique personal facts in a personality field. If a profile is later shared accidentally, removing it may not undo every prior exposure. Review the account and privacy checklist before adding autobiographical context.

Test, revise and publish carefully

Run several short conversations that begin in different ways. Check whether the character maintains voice, understands the relationship and reacts sensibly when the user changes direction. One successful chat is not enough because generation varies. Keep revisions small so it is possible to tell which instruction improved or harmed the result.

If a public bot is moderated or made private, read the current community rules and use official support channels for an appeal. Do not repeatedly repost the same profile to bypass a decision. For model, context or advanced generation controls that could affect testing, compare current options in the SpicyChat premium guide.

SpicyChat FAQ

Q1

Can a SpicyChat character stay private?

Yes. Official product materials describe private characters for personal conversations as well as public characters shared with the community.

Q2

What does unlisted mean on SpicyChat?

An unlisted character does not appear in public listings or search, but anyone who has its direct link can access and chat with it.

Q3

Which personality format is best?

SpicyChat documentation presents several styles and says there is no definitive best format. Consistency and experimentation matter more than the label.

Q4

Should imported characters be published publicly?

Official FAQs emphasize original public creations and advise keeping another creator’s imported work private.
